Fostering

There are many more cocker spaniels in need in the Mid-South than our group can accommodate at this time. Mid-South Cocker Spaniel Rescue is in desperate need of foster homes for these wonderful dogs. Average foster time for a rescued cocker spaniel is about 5 weeks.

Mid-South Cocker Spaniel Rescue will provide needed vet care, food, medicines (including Frontline and Heartgard), a crate for your foster dog(s) and access to obedience classes (if needed) for your foster dog. You provide the love and a comfy place for him or her until a forever home is found. Your foster dog(s) will provide unlimited kisses and gratitude for your kindness.

Many people worry that they will become too attached if they become foster parents to a needy cocker spaniel. While it's easy to fall in love with these precious wigglebutts, the knowledge that they are going to a wonderful forever home where they will be spoiled and pampered, allowing you to open your home to another of the many needy wigglebutts, makes letting them go a little bit easier.

Many of our rescued cockers come to us already housebroken and crate-trained, but their previous owners were overwhelmed by the commitment to caring for this breed on a daily basis. Sometimes the only thing they need to get them ready to meet potential adopters is a good grooming (also provided by the rescue group) and a place to stay until they meet Mr. and/or Ms. Right. Other times, our rescues need more help either with training to make them more desirable or with medical treatment for serious conditions like heartworms.

We are careful to match the needs of the cocker being fostered with the qualities of the foster parents so that no one will be overwhelmed trying to care for their wigglebutt. We realize that every foster home will have different strengths and limitations, but all of our foster homes are equally valuable to us.
